As part of its Next Generation Initiative focused on Resilient Youth (ResY), Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA, anticipates hiring two tenure-track faculty members with research programs focused on health disparities among urban youth to begin in Fall 2018. In the heart of one of the largest and most racially/ethnically diverse metropolitan areas in the Southeastern U.S., Georgia State provides a natural laboratory for solving the complex problems facing youths living in urban settings. Georgia State is also a national leader in graduating students from widely diverse backgrounds (racial, economic, nativity and nationality, sexual orientation, etc.).
Successful candidates will be hired at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with a primary appointment in the Departments of Psychology or Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences or in the School of Public Health. Qualified applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. or comparable terminal doctoral degree in psychology (community, clinical), public health (health promotion, epidemiology), sociology, or related areas. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in interdisciplinary research with faculty and students across the Georgia State community. Successful candidates will be expected to build on existing strengths in social and behavioral and public health research, with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas:
We seek established scientists who will join our growing cadre of researchers in Community Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Sociology, Health Promotion, and Epidemiology/Biostatistics. Successful candidates will also contribute to graduate and undergraduate education in one or more of these areas with opportunities to build on exciting interdisciplinary offerings across units (e.g., the new MPH/PhD in Community Psychology).
Each successful candidate will have an outstanding record of research achievement, including a strong record of external research funding. Successful candidates will be expected to maintain productive, funded research programs in relevant areas, and will be expected to demonstrate graduate and undergraduate instructional effectiveness with a diverse student body.
