Data Analyst Internship: Summer 2018

We're seeking a summer intern for a part-time paid internship (May – September). Work in a team setting with research and policy analysts focused on issues that affect people with disabilities and impact communities around the nation.

The Human Services Research Institute is a nonprofit, mission-driven organization that provides high-quality research, evaluation, program implementation, and data and statistical services to government agencies to improve public health services and systems.

What we're looking for
We're seeking a part-time paid summer intern to contribute to multiple research projects in our Tualatin, Oregon office. The work entails a mix of research, data preparation and analysis, data visualization, and report production. We're looking for someone who communicates well and who works well both independently and as part of a team.

In this role, you'll maintain project records and files; gather information through literature reviews and searches; perform data coding, cleaning, and entry tasks; perform dataset restructuring and data analyses. Working with a team of analysts, you'll also help plan and conduct more complex data modeling. And you'll contribute to the end products that convey our findings—creating tables, graphs, or other data visualizations; proofreading and conducting other editorial tasks; and assisting with the preparation of presentation materials, reports, and briefs. The demands of this job change rapidly; we need someone who can move from one project and type of work to another. This means that in a given day, you may work on a research report for one project, data cleaning for another, and final data visualizations for another.

  • Intermediate knowledge of data analysis and research methods
  • Experience with data management and statistical software (SPSS preferred)
  • Experience manipulating data using SPSS syntax and/or SQL

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Performs additional duties, as assigned
