The University of Dayton (UD) seeks an outstanding educator and scholar in the Catholic social tradition to serve as the Fr. Ferree Chair of Social Justice (“the Ferree Chair”). This is an exceptional opportunity for a distinguished scholar to advance interdisciplinary teaching and research in the Catholic social tradition that addresses issues of social justice.
The Ferree Chair joins UD at an important moment in its history. Eric F. Spina became the 19th president of UD in 2016. President Spina has spent his first two years bringing the historically collaborative community together through a strategic visioning. That vision calls on the University of Dayton to become a university “committed to the common good” and identifies the Catholic social tradition as a major theme in the integration of learning and scholarship across the University. In addition, it calls for UD to pay special attention to opportunities where teachers and scholars addressing the Catholic social tradition, human rights, and sustainability can work together to advance the common good. See udayton.edu/vision. The Ferree Chair will play a critical role in implementing this vision.
