We are conducting a national search for a project director who will coordinate the development/co-design and implementation of a PreK-8 STEM/community school that will be the long term “lab” school for the Simmons School of Education & Human Development.
I think this is a true research-practitioner opportunity – someone who needs to be equally comfortable on and off campus, and extremely skillful with applied research strategies. This Director will report directly to our Dean at the Simmons school and will work collaboratively with a large and multi-disciplinary team. They will sit in the “middle” of a four-way partnership between Dallas Independent School District, SMU, Toyota and other STEM industry partners, and the West Dallas community – a historically disadvantaged and Hispanic community, but one that is also rapidly changing and gentrifying. Relational, collaborative, communication and problem solving skills are probably more important than any specific content knowledge as this person will have access to a wide team of various subject matter experts. They will need to be able to move seamlessly between…. community and parent meetings, SMU faculty and staff – especially Teaching & Learning/educator prep, Dallas ISD district staff and eventually the STEM school principal and classroom teachers, non-profit social service providers, IRB committees and corporate board rooms, for example.
The posting says 7 years experience and PhD required but I would strongly encourage applications even if they don’t yet meet that criteria.
