Assistant Director

The Homelessness Research and Action Collaborative addresses the challenges of homelessness through research and evidence- based science that uncovers conditions that lead to homelessness.

The Homelessness Research and Action Collaborative’s goal is to help reduce homelessness and its negative impacts on individuals, families, and communities. The collaborative brings together the expertise and skills of each of Portland State University’s colleges and schools, and collaborates with people experiencing homelessness, advocates, service providers, city and county policy- makers and other stakeholders.

The Assistant Director: Serves as a managerial, administrative, and intellectual colleague of the center director and the director of research. Together, they form the leadership team of the Homelessness Research and Action Collaborative and work closely to achieve the center’s goals.

The assistant director plays a central role in ensuring the vision for the center is realized by supervising the daily operations and ensuring financial resources are deployed strategically. The assistant director reports to the director, who reports to the vice president for Research and Graduate Studies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse set of individuals
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and proven skill in problem solving and decision making.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial equity.
  • Demonstrated skills developing and working with complex budgets.
  • Successful completion of a back ground check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of relevant work or volunteer experience.
  • Prior experience working on homelessness or housing insecurity.
  • Ability to independently plan and conduct research projects.
  • Experience using the Banner Financial Information System.
