The Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health in the Department of Population and Quantitative Health Sciences at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has a fulltime position available for a Research Scientist to provide leadership to its robust and multifaceted Quantitative Research Core. The position will provide leadership to the Center’s collaborative research portfolio at the intersection of the complex interplay between the environment and health in the areas of community system dynamics modeling, longitudinal and cross-sectional survey research, geographic information systems mapping and analysis, data collection instrumentation, and database standardization and quality control. Successful candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in advanced quantitative analysis, geospatial analysis, and/or system dynamics modeling applied in the context of collaborative and community-engaged population health research and a PhD in Public Health or related field required.

The responsibilities for this position include leading, training, and coaching others to apply existing analytical methods and, as appropriate, develop new methods for designing and managing cross-sectional and longitudinal survey and simulation modeling research conducted in collaboration with stakeholders located in Greater Cleveland, statewide, and nationally. Leading provision of timely and accessible technical assistance to support study team (e.g., research associates, pre- and post-doctoral fellows, graduate research assistants) in implementation of quantitative research methodology. Analyzing and interpreting diverse data (e.g., dietary, psychosocial, Census, sales transactions) including spatially related data and data related to system dynamics modeling. Implementing protocols to systemize data analysis and interpretation to ensure quality control, standardization of database structure and management, and replicability. Conducting literature reviews to inform the scientific premise and rigor of study aims and goals and effectively translating findings through diverse dissemination methods including conference presentations, public forums, data briefs, and manuscripts. Establishing methods to engage multiple team members in writing processes to promote efficient release of study findings. Lead the development and execution of grant proposals, grant reporting systems, multiple IRB submissions, and task-specific trainings to support other team members engaged in Quantitative Research Core

The Candidate will have technical skills in 1) data management methods using SAS and R; 2) data analysis methods including linear regression, multivariate analysis, geographic information systems analysis, and systems modeling; and 3) environmental health research including methods to promote social, built, and physical environments to advance health equity.
