Tenure Track Assistant Professor (2) in Public Health at Syracuse University. The Department of Public Health at Syracuse University invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant professor beginning August, 2020. We seek one candidate with strong skills in health data analytics (area open) and one candidate with expertise in health promotion and credentialed in (or eligible to be credentialed in) community health education. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to diversity – including in their commitment to teach, advise, mentor, and collaborate with diverse student and community members — and excellence in our department.
We offer an undergraduate degree in Public Health (with concentrations in Addiction Prevention, Health & Society, Healthcare Management, and Community Health Education), an MPH (with a concentration in Global Health), an MSPH (with concentrations in Global Health and Health Data Analytics), undergraduate minors in Addiction Studies and Public Health, and Certificates of Advanced Study in Addiction Studies and Global Health. Our mission is to improve health for all people through scholarship, education, and service; thereby creating exceptional leaders who will impact public health, promote individual and community well-being, and effect change among local, national, and global communities. We will achieve this mission by: (1) Preparing practitioners and leaders in the field of public health to have a positive impact on public challenges; (2) Achieving excellence in teaching and scholarship; (3) Foster a richly diverse and inclusive community of learning and opportunity in our students, faculty, and curriculum; and (4) Inform the practice of public health through local, national, and global partnerships. Candidates must: (1) have an active program of research focused on important public or global health topics with a potential for extramural funding; (2) be committed to excellence in teaching diverse students at the graduate and undergraduate levels, (3) provide academic and career advising and mentoring to diverse undergraduate and graduate students; (4) and engage in department, college, university-level, community, and professional service activities. We anticipate the successful candidate in health data analytics will contribute to our undergraduate and graduate courses in epidemiology, public health data analytics, and biostatistics. We anticipate the successful candidate in health promotion will contribute to teaching in our public health core and community health education concentration courses, and to our graduate courses in health promotion and program evaluation.
In addition to skills and experience specific to their position, candidates should demonstrate excellence in cultural competence, including the ability to communicate effectively with people across cultures.
Qualifications: Ph.D. required, with preference given to individuals with a Ph.D. in Public Health or an MPH and a Ph.D. in a related field; Demonstrated training and experience in health data analytics or community health education (with credentialing or eligibility to be credentialed); Higher education teaching experience desirable; (community health education only) familiarity with academic service learning education desirable.
