POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Psychology seeks a faculty member (area open) with a strong grounding in quantitative methods and data analysis. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to teach across the psychology curriculum, including both lower and upper-division courses. As the psychology program is relatively new (we first started offering the B.A. in 2007), we are especially interested in candidates that have a strong service orientation, are flexible team players, and are interested in contributing to the development and refinement of our department’s curriculum. We focus on teaching at CSUMB and we believe that research is a part of our teaching mission. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to combine teaching with research with undergraduates.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach lower and upper division courses related to research methods and data analysis, including (but not limited to): research methods, statistics, testing and measurement, capstone, biopsychology, cognitive psychology, and writing in the discipline. Typical teaching load is 3 courses per semester
  • Participate in governance and curriculum development in the psychology department
  • Advise students to conduct research, especially those from non-traditional, first generation, working class, and ethnically diverse backgrounds
  • Contribute to the service needs at the Department, College and University levels

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in psychology or related field by the time of appointment
  • Experience teaching using a variety of techniques such as, discussion, team-based learning, problem-based learning, interactive lecture, peer-instruction, inclusive/critical and assets based pedagogies, etc.
  • Experience working effectively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership skills in professional or academic areas
  • Commitment to, and demonstrated potential for, teaching excellence
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collegial atmosphere of shared governance
  • Experience in start-up environments that required flexibility and innovation
  • Team player who is focused on community-building in the department, campus, and beyond
  • Experience with program development and assessment
  • Applicants should demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience
  • Experience with project-based learning
  • Interest and/or experience with the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)
