The Department of Psychology at Worcester State University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Community or Social Psychology with a focus on the etiology and consequences of individual and systemic oppression. Preference will be given to candidates who engage in community-engaged scholarship addressing social problems and/or public policy. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core courses in the Psychology of Diversity, Social Psychology, Applied Social Psychology, Research Methods and Applied Research Methods. Candidates may also develop courses in their area of specialization. The Psychology Department features individual faculty research space, a psychological/behavioral services clinic, computer labs, technical/instructional support, and a small animal vivarium. The Psychology Department has a strong and ongoing relationship with the university’s Community Engagement Center and Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as multiple local schools and community partners. Through teaching, scholarship, and service we promote human equity, health and well-being, effective functioning, and respect for diversity. Our undergraduate program is designed to give all students a well-rounded education in the discipline of psychology, as well as to provide a strong preparation for those who seek advanced study in psychology. Students who successfully complete our program receive a Bachelor of Arts degree. In addition to the undergraduate major, the Psychology Department offers an undergraduate certificate in behavior analysis and master's programs in applied behavior analysis, general psychology, and industrial-organizational psychology. The Psychology Department is housed in the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, consisting of 11 academic departments, four independent and interdisciplinary academic programs, and several centers and institutes. The College is a congenial and cohesive unit both academically and administratively. POSITION DETAILS: This is an Assistant Professor tenure-track position beginning with the Fall 2022 semester. Salary will be dependent upon qualifications and professional experience. JOB DUTIES: 1. Teach undergraduate and graduate psychology courses, including courses focused on the psychology of culture, race, and ethnicity. 2. Develop a focused and productive program of research on the psychology of culture, race, and ethnicity that involves undergraduate and graduate students. 3. Develop new curriculum that incorporates the psychological study of culture, race, and ethnicity and develop related courses on cultural and race theory and methodology. 4. Deliver periodic lectures, workshops, or symposia on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and work with other campus units to develop and promote programming that focuses on and supports DEI. 5. Develop, administer, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students within a practicum and internship fieldwork program that includes establishing and maintaining partnerships with a wide-range of community- and school-based organizations. 6. Provide advising to Psychology majors. 7. Supervise Master’s level students. 8. Provide service to the department, college, University, and community. 9. Work as a cooperative member in the function of the department, including assessment, accreditation and program review. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ph.D. from an accredited university with a research and teaching focus on Cultural Psychology, with specific subdiscipline open. ABD applicants will be considered. If ABD, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by January 2023. 2. An established background in the psychological study of culture, race, and ethnicity. 3. Ability to teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses. 4. Potential to succeed or proven track record as a researcher. 5. Potential to succeed or demonstrated ability to develop new curriculum and workshops related to culture and community. 6. Knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity in pedagogy/educational practices. 7. Ability to mentor and support students from diverse backgrounds. 8. Ability to work collegially in a multicultural environment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Teaching experience in culture-focused courses at the college level. 2. Ability and desire to contribute to other teaching needs within the department, such as introductory psychology, research methods, statistics, or other areas within candidate’s expertise. 3. Training and experience in using a wide variety of teaching methodologies and perspectives that integrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice issues in the curriculum. 4. Experience conducting research in partnership with culturally diverse, marginalized, and/or underrepresented populations.
