Greetings SCRA community!
It is with bittersweet pleasure that we make this call for nominations for a new SCRA National Student Representative (NSR). Danielle Kohfeldt will be cycling off from her position as an NSR and the membership will soon be voting to select a replacement.
National Student Representatives are elected to a two-year term and serve as voting members of the Society’s Executive Committee. In addition to serving on the Executive Committee, NSRs are charged with requesting and editing student submissions to The Community Psychologist, requesting and judging award applications, contributing to Biennial planning, maintain student oriented social media outlets, and involving students in SCRA initiatives. Serving as NSR is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about SCRA, contribute to and help shape the future of your professional organization, network with community psychology colleagues, and gain experience in leadership, planning, and outreach. For more information about the position please contact current NSRs Danielle Kohfeldt (dkohfeld@ucsc.edu) or Chuck Sepers (csepers@ku.edu).
In order to be eligible to run for NSR, candidates must be current student members of SCRA and must fulfill the term of office while remaining a student for the duration of the term, and before beginning internship or assuming full-time employment. Nominations for the position may come from a faculty advisor, mentor, or directly from interested candidates. The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, May 9th, 2014. Candidates are asked to submit a 300-500 word statement to appear on the official voting ballot. This statement should include the following:
1. Brief biographical information
2. Background in the field of Community Psychology
3. Involvement in prior SCRA-related activities, or leadership in community-based research and action
4. Goals for two-year term as NSR
5. Any other information as deemed relevant by the candidate
Nominations and candidate statements should be emailed toscrastudentreps@gmail.com.
The election for National Student Representative will begin on Monday, May 12th, 2014. Statements from all student candidates will be emailed to the student membership via the SCRA student and general listservs on that day. Additionally, the email will include a link to the online ballot which will be administered via Survey Monkey. Candidate statements will also be included with the online ballot, and polling will close on Monday, June 2nd, 2014, three weeks after voting begins.
Selection of Student Representative is by majority vote, and announcement of the election results will be made via email and during the APA convention.
As always, thank you for your continued support and work!
