The position is located in the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) in Washington DC. The incumbent is assigned responsibilities related to (1) initiating formulating, planning, and executing one or more of BJS's statistical series or statistical programs; (2) analyzing data and reporting statistical information from one or more of BJS's statistical series or statistical programs; and (3) representing BJS before a wide variety of stakeholders at the national, state, and local levels that include users of BJS's statistical information and providers of data to BJS's statistical programs. Incumbent will have responsibilities for helping to maintain, enhance, and expand major statistical series and programs to help ensure that the knowledge created from them has utility and relevance to stakeholders and that BJS's data collection activities are implemented in ways that maintain the trust and confidence of its data providers.
While BJS is looking for candidates with knowledge of all aspects of criminal justice systems at the national, state, and local areas, it also seeks candidates with particular interest/subject matter expertise related to: (1) juvenile justice and juvenile offenders; 2) tribal justice systems, and/or 3) recidivism with a special focus on using official criminal history records to study recidivism. May be assigned responsibilities for implementing the data collection and analysis requirements under the Prison Rape Elimination Act. The position is also telework eligible.
