March 27, 2022: Updated on the March Executive Committee Meeting

We, SCRA Student Representatives, wanted to share an update with you regarding the Executive Committee Meeting, which occurred on March 16, 2022. As you may know, the Executive Committee (EC) meets regularly to discuss a range of topics regarding the strategies, programs, and services of the organization.

At the March EC meeting, we welcomed 2 new members–Ericka Mingo, Member-At-Large, & Moshood Olanrewaju, Regional Network Coordinator. Also, we reviewed and agreed to adopt a proposed procedure for Executive Committee meetings. Much of the meeting time was spent on discussing staffing structures within SCRA based on legal recommendations from APA. This conversation will continue at the April EC meeting in order to finalize next steps. There were updates on the upcoming SCRA elections as well as updates from APA. There were supposed to be updates from other committees and initiatives but many of those had to be postponed to the next meeting.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns that you would like to have addressed with the Executive Committee, please let us know–StudentReps@scra27.org.

February 27, 2022: Updates on the February Executive Committee Meeting

We, SCRA Student Representatives, wanted to share an update with you regarding the Executive Committee Meeting, which occurred on February 16, 2022. The Executive Committee (EC) meets regularly to discuss a range of topics regarding the strategies, programs, and services of the organization.

At the February EC meeting, we finalized approvals for the budget, which included our funding requests for the SCRA Student Research Grant and student events at APA and ICCP conferences. Several EC initiatives were discussed further given the budget approval and various EC subcommittees will be convening to discuss, plan, and implement those initiatives. The Nominations Committee provided a progress report as to the slate of candidates for our upcoming election, noting that a limited number of people are available to serve as candidates for several positions. It is important to highlight that our current bylaws require at least 2 candidates for each elected position. We have several nominations for the Student Representative position, so be on the lookout for your election ballot in April/May; if you are interested in participating in the election, be sure your membership is up to date.

February 9, 2022: Updates on the 2022 Mid-Winter Meeting

We, SCRA Student Representatives, wanted to share an update with you regarding the Mid-Winter Meeting, which occurred February 3-5, 2022.

The Mid-Winter Meeting (MWM) is an annual meeting where the Executive Director (ED) and Executive Committee (EC) meet across three days to discuss a range of topics surrounding actions taken to fulfill SCRA’s strategic plan and mission. Typically, the MWM takes place in person; however, last year (2021) and this year (2022), we were able to meet virtually over Zoom.

During this year’s MWM, a large portion of the time was dedicated to discussing SCRA’s annual budget (the annual budget is always discussed during the MWM). Our other two main agenda items were voting on the Nominations Committee’s recommended slate for the upcoming election cycle, filling the positions of President-Elect, Member-at-Large for Awards, Secretary, and Regional Network Coordinator; and voting on the Fellows Committee’s recommended slate of SCRA fellows candidates.

Throughout the course of our discussions, many critical topics came up that we weren’t able to appropriately address in our time together, so they were tabled for a more in-depth discussion at a later Executive Committee meeting, which occurs monthly. As your student representatives, our goal is to continue providing timely updates of the Executive Committee’s activities, especially as it relates to these critical topics. The ED and EC are working on some final edits to the annual budget. Once it is fully approved, we will have more information to share regarding the year’s priorities.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns that you would like to have addressed with the Executive Committee, please let us know–StudentReps@scra27.org.
