The Qualitative Methods & Analysis Center (QMAC) is a consultative shared facility at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center that facilitates the conduct of high-quality qualitative studies within the context of wide range of research including implementation science, quality improvement, community-based, medical education, and health services. Qualitative and participatory research are uniquely suited to capture and understand perspectives and reveal the contextual, sociocultural, and experiential factors that contribute to understanding health outcomes and health disparities. QMAC provides consultation services, resources, and support in qualitative study design, data collection, and data analysis for faculty, fellows, residents, and graduate students who are conducting studies within the Cincinnati Academic Health Center or affiliated with the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center.

The Research Associate working with the Qualitative Methods and Analysis Center (QMAC) will be responsible for providing senior level (i.e., methodologic) support of qualitative research activities for assigned projects. This RA will work collaboratively with QMAC co-directors and QMAC faculty and staff in providing consultative services to investigators at all stages of study conduct. This would include providing guidance in qualitative and mixed methods research design, consulting on project challenges, data collection and analyses, and conducting other associated study activities. Job responsibilities include providing qualitative research methods and analysis training and resources to study teams, lead and/or participate in grant writing, assist in designing study protocols and data collection tools, facilitate participant interviews and focus groups, assess study needs and identifying potential study issues, lead and/or participate in data coding and analysis, providing reports of research findings, assist in manuscript development, and varied administrative tasks.

Development of a personal research program including peer and senior-level career and methodologic mentorship can be supported but is not required. Please indicate interest upon application.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Research knowledge: understanding of the life cycle of research studies from funding application to publication, awareness of research regulations and IRB processes.

• Leadership: Consults on study questions and challenges, providing constructive feedback to study teams. Delegates responsibilities to team members to most efficiently execute study procedures. Provides constructive feedback about team member performance and exhibits professionalism when receiving individual feedback. Presentation of research findings at local and/or national meetings.

• Computer: proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Zoom, Microsoft Teams; preferred skills in REDCap and qualitative data analysis software (MAXQDA, Dedoose, Atlas, and/or NVivo).

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • PhD or equivalent degree in research methodology, social science or health related field
  • 3 – 5 years of work experience in a related job discipline
  • Experience conducting qualitative research, including design, recruitment, data collection, and data analysis and interpretation.

Preferred:

  • Previous work in a health care setting.
  • Familiarity with qualitative analysis software.
  • Experience in mixed methods research, community-engaged research and quantitative study design and analysis.
  • History of developing and providing qualitative research training to professionals.
  • Experience with scientific writing and applying for grant funding, writing study protocols, and writing manuscripts.Ci
