Topic: Integrating Scholarship and Activism: Reflections, Testimonials, and/or Comments
Description: While community psychologists and critical theorists strive to integrate research and activism, it can be challenging to fulfill. Sometimes we face institutional barriers or social norms that impede or dissuade activism. Other times students and researchers find innovative ways to act as both scholars and activists, either simultaneously or in separate spaces.
Such integrations may include, using research to inform policy change, interviewing activists to better understand their role in promoting social good, or working as activists outside of research roles. Still others use their lived experiences to inform their theoretical orientations and methodologies. There have been great strides towards merging these silos of scholarship and activism, while others see benefits in keeping them apart.
