Call for 2027 SCRA Fellows

SCRA seeks to recognize a variety of exceptional contributions that significantly advance the field of community research and action including, but not limited to, theory development, research, evaluation, teaching, intervention, policy development and implementation, advocacy, consultation, program development, administration and service. A SCRA Fellow is someone who provides evidence of “unusual and outstanding contributions or performance in community research and action.” Fellows show evidence of (a) sustained productivity in community research and action over a period of a minimum of five years; (b) distinctive contributions to knowledge and/or practice in community psychology that are recognized by others as excellent; and (c) impact beyond the immediate setting in which the Fellow works.

We encourage SCRA members from diverse backgrounds to apply and send the call to other candidates. We embrace the values of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in our nomination and selection process and will be proactive in our outreach.

Instructions for SCRA Fellow Applications

  1. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA [5+ years outstanding contribution, SCRA member, general criteria, APA criteria/form if parallel application selected.] Due dates are without extension.
  2. Nominees must have been members of the Society for Community Research and Action for at least two years at the time of nomination.  It is encouraged to double check membership status prior to applying.
  3. At least 3 endorsement forms and two must be written by SCRA members in the field who can identify your strengths in the area of Community Psychology.      Note that in order to apply for APA fellowship you will need to have at least 3 letters of endorsement from current APA Fellows. Review APA Fellow Database.
  4. Supporting materials, including a vita with refereed publications marked with an “R,” (submit via online application)
  5. A nominee’s self-statement setting for her/his/their accomplishments that warrant nomination to Fellow Status (submit via online application)
  6. SCRA members who are Fellows of other APA divisions should also apply for SCRA Fellow status if they have made outstanding contributions to community research and action.
  7. It is highly recommended, but not required that applicants receive mentoring from SCRA Fellows. Please review the list of SCRA fellows here.
  8. Pick only one of the four areas to be evaluated on: (1) community practice and action; (2) research and action; (3) teaching and action; or (4) administration or professional service and action
  9. Review the evaluation criteria for your self-assessment. Please note use the links in this application page. Do not use the links on the evaluation criteria.

  9. Choose endorsers in the areas you choose who can, and are willing to complete the evaluation form by the due date. Two endorsers must be members of SCRA.

10. Your endorsers will receive a link to complete the confidential online form which will be returned directly to SCRA. There are no letters for submissions.

11. Your endorser will complete an online form that is aligned with the area you selected for evaluation. Share the following form with your endorser so they can see the criteria in advance:

community practice and action
research and action
teaching and action
administration or professional service and action

These forms are for reference only. Endorsers must submit their ratings online using the personalized link they receive by email.

12. Complete the online application well before the deadline. The form must be completed in one sitting, so gather your materials first (see “Recommendation on Using the Online Application Form” below). Your endorsers will receive their link as soon as you submit.

Recommendation for Applicants

  1. In addition to the required “self-statement,” draft a “Case in Brief” in bullet points—less is more here. You are addressing your qualifications to meet the Fellow criteria: evidence of “unusual and outstanding contributions or performance in community research and action.”  Good to have colleagues lend a critical eye to both here. You will share this with your references along with other materials [CV, links to your work on the web, etc.] to help them quickly focus on what they need to comment on.
  2. Choose references who know you and/or your accomplishments well; OK to pick some references [3-6] who can address specific accomplishments and not everything you’ve done.
  3. Include validation by others—awards, recognition, work citations, social media analytics, and others that add value to defining your contributions to “research and action.
  4. Show the evaluation criteria for each of the four specialty areas; do your own self-assessment
  5. Select endorsers that know you well enough to comment on the specifics
  6. Share these with your endorsers, and ask if they will complete an endorsement for your Fellow application by the deadline. If they agree, a link to the evaluation form will come by email from Airtable, with the sender name “SCRA Fellows Committee” and the subject line “SCRA Fellow Endorsement Request for [your name].” Ask your endorsers to check their spam or junk folder if they don’t see it.
  7. Inform them that their evaluations are confidential, and that they will be returned to SCRA only.
  8. Tell you their own fellow status in APA and Divisions.
  9. Complete the Endorsers section of the application with this information.

Recommendation on using the Online Application Form

Gather your materials before you start. The online form must be completed in one sitting, since progress can’t be saved. We recommend drafting your materials in a separate document first, then saving each one as a file (Word or PDF) to upload. Before you begin, have the following ready:

  • Your self-statement, vita (with refereed publications marked with an “R”), and short bio (250 words maximum), each as a file to upload
  • Your chosen area of evaluation
  • Names and email addresses for at least three endorsers, at least two of whom are SCRA members. You may list up to six.

Double-check your endorsers’ email addresses. When you submit your application, each endorser will automatically receive an email with a personalized link to their endorsement form. An incorrect email address means your endorser won’t receive the request.

Apply early. All materials, including endorsements, are due December 15, 2026. Submitting your application early gives your endorsers time to complete their forms.

What to expect after you submit:

  • You’ll receive a confirmation email listing the endorsers who were contacted. If any information is incorrect, reply to that email right away.
  • You’ll receive an email each time an endorser submits their form.
  • If you have fewer than three endorsements one week before the deadline, you’ll receive a reminder so you can follow up with your endorsers.
