The mental health of family caregivers has a significant bearing on the outcomes of children with special needs. Family caregivers spend much of their time caring for children with disabilities which adversely affects their ability to engage in socio-economic activities giving rise to the probability of developing mental illness. Protective factors naturally embedded in the African family system can be tools that enhance the promotion of wellness among caregivers of children with special needs.
